Fans watching Newcastle's Champions League clash with AC Milan couldn't decide which was better: Joelinton's goal or the way he celebrated it.

The Brazilian blasted the Magpies into the lead mid-way through the first half at St James' Park after latching on to Jamie Miley's cut-back. He cushioned the ball with his first touch and with his second he rocketed it past Mike Maignan into the top corner as 50,000 Newcastle fans exploded.

But rather than charge, arms flailing, towards the corner flag for a customary knee-slide, Joelinton simply started strolling nonchalantly, almost as if twirling an imaginary cane, towards his team-mates. Fans on social media labelled his reaction "epic" and argued it was just as entertaining as his "thunderb*****d" of a strike.

"What a f***ing finish by Joelinton! And what a f***ing celebration," one supporter beamed. A second said: "Loving the nonchalance of Joelinton’s celebration there, having whacked in a goal like that."

"Imagine having the swagger to react like that after scoring such a big goal in front of 50,000 people," a third wrote. A fourth commented: "How can you not love Joelinton?"

Newcastle fans were brought back down to Earth just a few minutes into the second half when Christian Pulisic brought Milan level. The former Chelsea star stabbed home from close range after latching on to a knockout from fellow former Chelsea ace Olivier Giroud.

Eddie Howe's side headed into tonight's clash knowing that anything less than a win would see them eliminated from the competition. Three points could see them clinch second place in the group, but only if PSG fail to beat Dortmund in the other fixture.

A win would be just their second since returning to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years this season. They smashed PSG 4-1 at home in October, and were unlucky not to beat them in Paris after conceding a last minute penalty, which was duly converted by Kylian Mbappe, for a soft handball by Tino Livramento.
