'The 7-0 was a freak result!' | Jurgen Klopp previews Liverpool's clash with Man Utd

Liverpool have reportedly scouted Swedish winger Momodou Sonko but face competition from Barcelona in the race for the BK Hacken forward. The teenager has become one of the Allsvenskan’s most highly-rated youngsters and has been tipped for a bright future, potentially in the Premier League.

Swedish outlet Expressen claim that the Reds sent scouts to watch Sonko on Thursday as his team lost 2-1 away to Azerbaijan side Qarabag in the Europa League. Hacken lost all six of their European games and scored just three goals in the process, but one of them did come from Sonko as he has been the shining star of their European campaign.

Liverpool are yet to follow up their interest by making a concrete proposal, but he is said to be valued at £7million by Hacken and certainly would not break the bank in a January move. However, Barcelona and RB Leipzig are also interested in the 18-year-old as a result of his 10 goals and five assists in all competitions this season.

Sonko played 82 minutes in the game that Liverpool watched and they also planned to scout him in a training session for the Swedish club earlier in the year, indicating that there is some interest from the Merseyside club.

He was recently called up to the Swedish national team and could provide Liverpool with a promising option, especially as they will not be able to call upon talisman Mohamed Salah for the majority of January as he competes with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah’s long-term future at Anfield remains uncertain, with interest continuing from Saudi Arabia. Sonko could be one way Liverpool that are safeguarding their future as the teenager would likely be viewed as a player for the future, as opposed to someone who can make an immediate impact.
