Liverpool fans have been left furious after Ederson avoided a red card during Manchester City's clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Brazilian came flying off his line to close down Jean-Philippe Mateta – lunging towards the ball. Ederson caught the 26-year-old, missing the ball, sending him to the ground, with Paul Tierney blowing up for a Palace free-kick.

However, Tierney then brandished Ederson with a yellow card – and Reds fans are fuming he wasn't given a tougher punishment. One fan fumed: "How’s Ederson not been sent off here then?"

"Van Dijk got sent off for much less contact and he had the best goalkeeper in the world still behind him. Ederson cleans someone out as last man and gets a yellow. Standard," a second said. And a third replied: "Disgrace! Ederson not getting a clear and obvious red!"

"Watch the Van Dijk red against Newcastle then watch the Ederson foul….only Van Dijk gets the red," a fourth fumed. And another added: "Shouldn’t it be a red card for Ederson? He’s the last man!"

Mateta was able to exact some sort of revenge in the second half, as he netted with Palace's first shot on target in the game. Jeffrey Schlupp raced onto a through ball, with City's defence at sixes and sevens, and he was able to pull the ball back to Mateta.

Mateta rolled the ball into an open net – cutting Palace's deficit in half.

Palace were then able to escape with a point when Michael Olise found the net in the 95th minute.
