Paul Ince claims his former England and Liverpool team-mate Michael Owen has been “talking rubbish” about Harry Kane. Owen recently claimed it would be no achievement for the Three Lions skipper to win the Bundesliga but Ince says the comments are “very unfair”.

Kane finally left Tottenham to join Bayern Munich in the summer. Bayern will pay Spurs up to £100million for the striker including add-ons.

He has had a stunning start to life in Germany, scoring 24 goals in his first 21 matches in all competitions. But the move didn’t go down well with Owen.

Owen claimed in October that Kane should have stayed at Spurs if the likes of Real Madrid weren’t interested in the summer. He said winning the Bundesliga is not a good enough reason to have left north London.

Owen told DAZN Bet: “Bayern are undoubtedly one of the biggest clubs in the world but for me to win a trophy, I don’t think there’s anything really special about going and guaranteeing yourself a Bundesliga trophy. Bayern will win the league with or without Kane, so I don’t think that was particularly a reason to leave.”

But like last season, Bayern do not look nailed on to win the Bundesliga this term. They are currently second, four points behind Bayer Leverkusen despite Kane’s record-breaking start.

Ince says Owen’s verdict was wrong and has stressed that the league in Germany is now much more competitive than it once was. Ince told DAZN Bet: “I think Michael Owen’s comments on the Bundesliga are very unfair. A title is a title. Bayern aren’t even top of the Bundesliga.

“There’s also the threat of Dortmund, Leipzig, and Stuttgart. It’s not as easy as people think. Bayern barely won it last year.
