We all thought Man United would get pasted so Erik ten Hag was RIGHT to set up like that \u2013\u00a0It\u2019s All Kicking Off<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Curtis Jones scored twice and Liverpool booked a record 19th appearance in the League Cup semi-finals with a 5-1 thrashing of West Ham United on Wednesday, claiming the last of four berths.<\/p>\n<p>Dominik Szoboszlai, Cody Gakpo and talisman Mohamed Salah, who did not enter the game until it was an hour old, also scored in what unravelled into a rout in the final 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Szoboszlai netted in the 28th minute with a thunderous strike from 20 yards that sailed into the far corner. Jones doubled Liverpool&#8217;s lead with his first goal minutes into the second half after a give-and-go with Darwin Nunez, sprinting onto Nunez&#8217;s pass to one-time his shot through keeper Alphonse Areola&#8217;s legs.<\/p>\n<p>Gakpo scored from the top of the 18-yard box before Jarrod Bowen pulled one back for the Hammers in the 77th minute. Even when we do not beat a team like Manchester United, the reaction outside is that it is a setback.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018As manager, this world is not one I can be part of.<\/p>\n<p>This is why I have spoken about the positives when others wanted to find negatives.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Good news, Jurgen \u2014 even the harshest of critics will have struggled to find fault with the Reds\u2019 rampant win here.<\/p>\n<h2>Fans feel the frustration<\/h2>\n<p>That wasn\u2019t the only sign of Klopp being irked at this match.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A few minutes after Liverpool took the lead, the manager turned around to a section of the Main Stand and geed them up, with a hint of frustration in his body language.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Klopp walked back to his technical area shaking his head, before offering an apologetic hand to the section of Anfield.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/20\/22\/79192963-0-image-a-15_1703111275685.jpg\" height=\"501\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott (above) caused all sorts of problems for West Ham<\/p>\n<h2>Elliott can replace AFCON-bound Salah<\/h2>\n<p>Harvey Elliott was by far the best player on the pitch in the first half, operating on Liverpool\u2019s right flank.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Whether taking his man on and going to the byline or cutting inside, the midfielder, still only 20, caused all sorts of problems for West Ham.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With Mohamed Salah set to be missing for weeks during the Africa Cup of Nations, it offered a window into how Liverpool\u2019s right-hand side could look without him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/20\/22\/79193993-12887679-image-a-32_1703112575705.jpg\" height=\"446\" width=\"306\"><\/p>\n<h2>Hammers hardly threaten<\/h2>\n<p>West Ham barely threatened in a first half when Liverpool enjoyed total control.<\/p>\n<p>The visitors\u2019 lack of ambition was illustrated by their lack of touches in the opposition\u2019s box (right) \u2014 Moyes\u2019 men had just one in the first 45 minutes, to Liverpool\u2019s 23.<\/p>\n<p>The Hammers also didn\u2019t have a shot on target until the 77th minute \u2014 though that did at least produce Jarrod Bowen\u2019s consolation goal.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.dailymail.co.uk\/1s\/2023\/12\/20\/22\/79193021-0-image-a-16_1703111332833.jpg\" height=\"441\" width=\"634\"><\/p>\n<p>West Ham boss David Moyes suffered his 21st defeat at Anfield on Wednesday night<\/p>\n<h2>Moyes&#8217; Anfield hoodoo goes on<\/h2>\n<p>Happy 21st, David Moyes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This was the 21st time he had taken a team to Anfield, and the 21st match in which he left without a victory.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3>IT&#8217;S ALL KICKING OFF!\u00a0<\/h3>\n<p><span>It&#8217;s All Kicking Off\u00a0is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, with a show every Monday and Thursday this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Your browser does not support iframes.<\/p>\n<p>And judging by his team selection, he was pretty much waving the white flag before a ball had been kicked.<\/p>\n<p>An injury-ravaged and heavily rotated Liverpool were there for the taking if West Ham named their best XI.
