The World Cup tournament at WWE Crown Jewel took an incredible twist on SmackDown on Tuesday night.
SmackDown chief Shane McMahon announced on the show that whichever of his stars reach the final of the tournament will be FIRED if they do not win.
Speaking backstage to Rey Mysterio, The Miz, Jeff Hardy and Randy Orton, McMahon, son of WWE supremo Vince, said: "Whichever one of you makes it to the finals, and that person loses to a RAW Superstar, you will no longer have a home on SmackDown."
Shane added it would be ‘one of the worst things to happen’ if his sister Stephanie would be able to call a RAW wrestler ‘the best in the world’.
Seth Rollins, Kurt Angle, Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Lashley will be the competitors from RAW to take part in the eight-man tournament.
Bobby Lashley was called up as a late replacement for John Cena , who has pulled out of the controversial PPV.
Political tensions between the US and Saudi Arabia, where they event will take place on Friday, are incredibly fractious after the murder of US-based journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
Cena has begun a career in Hollywood and he is thought he is not willing to risk tarnishing his reputation by competing at Crown Jewel.
He was followed by SmackDown star Daniel Bryan, who has also refused to travel for the PPV.
Bryan had been due to face AJ Styles for the WWE championship, but the duo instead faced off for the title to open SmackDown.
Styles forced Bryan to tap before Samoa Joe came to the ring and beat both men down. Samoa Joe was later confirmed as Bryan’s replacement at Crown Jewel.
Elsewhere on the PPV, DX, formed of Triple H and Shawn Michaels, will take on the Brothers of Destruction (Kane and The Undertaker).
