Tiger Woods comeback update after Masters injury and retirement message
Tiger Woods opens up about struggles since car crash
Tiger Woods is back swinging a golf club five months after being forced to withdraw from the Masters and told to retire from professional golf. Woods’ career has been impacted by injury in recent years, forcing the American to take on a part-time schedule.
In 2023 the 15-time major champion has played just twice on the PGA Tour. Woods’ first outing of the season came at an event he knows well, the Genesis Invitational, before returning to Augusta National for this year’s Masters.
Despite his love affair with the iconic Georgia course, Woods was defeated by the grueling conditions in the opening major championship of the year after being forced to pull out in the third round. In the week following his Masters’ withdrawal, the 47-year-old’s team revealed he had sustained an injury to his ankle.
The statement confirmed that Woods had already undergone surgery on the issue and had begun his recovery process. Five months later, the 82-time PGA Tour appears to have made a huge step toward making his return after being pictured on the range at Liberty National in New Jersey alongside fellow Tour pros Rickie Fowler and Will Zalatoris.

Woods’ range session was a positive update for the three-time Green Jacket winner’s fans, especially after there had been doubt about his playing future on the back of his latest injury problem. The American star’s struggle was a tough watch for any golf fan at Augusta.
And on the back of his limping Masters withdrawal, TV presenter Michael A. Smith called on Woods to finally call it quits. Discussing the American on ESPN’s “First Take” in April, Smith said: “I watched him limping on the course before he bowed out on Sunday, and I was thankful he bowed out.

“… I think it is time for him to call it quits. I know Phil Mickelson is aged 52, but the bottom line is Phil Mickelson’s body hasn’t been through what Tiger Woods’ body has been through.” Despite his lengthy time away from the course, Woods has still been hard at work after taking up a new position with the PGA Tour.
The 47-year-old is now set to play a role in the Tour’s ongoing agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) and LIV Golf, after being appointed to the circuit’s Policy Board as a player director. Woods will work alongside fellow players Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Charley Hoffman, Peter Malnati, and Webb Simpson.
