F1 team have ‘clear evidence’ against Red Bull in bid to change race result
Guenther Steiner has claimed Haas are holding “clear evidence” in their bid to overturn the result of the United States Grand Prix, with Red Bull one of three teams summoned to the FIA hearing. Haas are locked in a tight battle at the bottom of the Constructors’ Championship, where every point could mean millions for each team.
The United States Grand Prix proved pivotal as Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant benefitted from Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc being disqualified as they earned Williams three valuable points. Nico Hulkenberg only just missed out on the points with Haas currently bottom of the Constructors’ Championship.
But the American-licenced F1 team lodged a right of review to the FIA last weekend to contest the result of the race in Austin. Their appeal is based around Williams, Red Bull and Aston Martin exceeding track limits with race stewards admitting they didn’t have the data available to them to check all corners.
Steiner insists the rules must be followed and wants the sport’s governing body to act on the ‘clear evidence’ Haas are set to present in Wednesday’s hearing. “There are rules,” Steiner said.

“If the stewards do not have the correct information, then of course they cannot intervene. We completely understand that. However, now we have the information and we will see what the FIA does once they have that information at their disposal.
“I completely understand that they have not seen the images yet, but if that is the case, how can they make a decision with certainty? However, now we have clear evidence.”
Albon had already been given a five-second penalty for exceeding track limits, but would have received further punishment had the stewards noted a second infringement. The Williams driver ended up finishing under five seconds ahead of Hulkenberg.

Some drivers also indicated Red Bull driver Sergio Perez had taken liberties at Turn 6 where track limits couldn’t be properly policed. Charles Leclerc didn’t name Perez while being asked about the track limit fiasco in Austin, but called on the FIA to address the situation.
“We really need to look into that to find a solution because I don’t think it’s a good look in general to have these kinds of things,” he said when asked directly about Perez cutting the track. “There are a few other examples in the past where there wasn’t exactly the right camera to look on one particular corner and then you can go wide and nothing happens, but if you go one millimetre wider in the corner that is controlled, you get pinged and it can ruin your weekend.
“So on these kind of things, we’ll have to discuss with the FIA to try and understand what they can do in order to have a better system for it to be more regular because looking at one particular driver in Turn 6 in USA yeah…for me the evidence of the onboard was clearly enough to judge that [he was] off-track.”
