Verstappen fed up with F1 bosses as Red Bull star eyes new job at Brazilian GP
Max Verstappen has joked that he would like to replace Stefano Domenicali as the head of F1 after he was asked whether he would like more of a say in the rule changes that are affecting the sport. The Dutchman was one of many frustrated with the new pit-lane exit rules introduced ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The FIA have frustrated plenty of individuals in the paddock this weekend with their new rule change. To combat drivers stopping at the end of the pit lane to back up their rivals and create gaps to the cars ahead during qualifying, drivers must now position themselves on the left-hand side of the pit exit to create a ‘slow lane’.
Asked whether he’d like more of a say in the rules, Verstappen replied: “I think it sometimes also they have too many rules that they have to take into account and too many politics as well to make a change or a decision, I think. I would like to, as GPDA, to have a say. I would like to be the owner of F1 if I could.
“But that’s not the real world. We keep expressing our concerns, but also what has been done correctly and we keep that dialogue, I’d say, open. We try to always make them listen and we listen as well. We try to communicate and we’ll see what comes out of it in the coming years.”

Verstappen had some close shaves on multiple occasions using the new fast-lane and slow-lane system in Brazil. The Dutchman raced around the outside of Charles Leclerc during qualifying on Friday before doing the same to his team-mate Sergio Perez in the sprint shootout.
The three-time world champion also explained his specific concerns with the latest rule change, stating: “It was absolutely terrible. On this track, you have quite a long pit exit and there are some walls. But on some other tracks, if we implement this, you’re driving very slowly onto a straight where people are passing with 300 plus [km/h].

“And you’re maybe driving at 15, 20 to make a gap, which is extremely dangerous. For me, this doesn’t work at all. It just creates even more trouble. I mean, look at what was happening [in qualifying] – people going on the grass, including myself, to try to pass cars.
“It’s just a mess every single qualifying, you have like six to eight cars getting noted for driving too slow with the minimum time. I don’t know what we’re trying to achieve.”
