Arsenal flop looks unrecognisable dressed like a clown after quitting football

Imagine a striker who scored fewer than 80 career league goals labelling himself one of the best in the world. What would you call him? A clown, perhaps?

Well, as luck would you have, he's been dressing like one as part of a post-retirement Segway into the world of reality TV. Let me explain.

Former Arsenal star Nicklas Bendtner, or 'Lord Bendtner' as he was humorously know to fans, had something of an ego during his playing days. Despite never really nailing down a starting berth in Arsene Wenger's side, the Dane loftily declared himself "one of the best strikers in the world" in 2010 – off the back of netting six league goals in 23 games.

Some reckoned he was intentionally trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes, as opposed to simply being an arrogant, delusional weirdo – and they might be right considering his new line of work! Since retiring in 2021, aged just 33, Bendtner has been presenting a show on Amazon Prime Danmark called 'Nicklas Pranker' in which, you guessed it, he pulls pranks on unsuspecting members of the public, more often than not by going undercover.

In one episode he's seen dressed in a big clown costume complete with wig, red nose and giant bowtie, as he poses for a fake photo shoot. Almost all of his pranks centre around toe-curling scenarios, akin to hit US prank show Impractical Jokers.

What's the worst prank you've ever pulled on someone? Let us know in the comments section below.

Bendtner signed for Arsenal in 2005 at the age of 17. He broke into the first-team squad two years later, scoring nine goals in 40 games, of which just seven were starts, in his debut campaign. But indiscipline and immaturity dimmed his bright start and he failed to unseat first-choice strikers Robin van Persie and Emmanuel Adebayor.

He spent the next few seasons in and out of the team without ever really being a dependable goalscorer, and left the club in 2014, shortly after a shock loan move to Juventus, with 45 strikes in 175 matches to his name. Bendtner later played for Wolfsburg and Nottingham Forest before wrapping his career up back in Scandinavia, first with Norwegian outfit Rosenborg and later with Danish side Copenhagen.
