Bayern Munich could sign second Tottenham star in January as Dier heads for exit
Tottenham could sell another player to Bayern Munich in the January transfer window, according to reports. Eric Dier may follow his former team-mate Harry Kane to the Allianz Arena as Thomas Tuchel looks to strengthen his defensive options.
Dier has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham since the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as head coach. He made 31 Premier League starts last season but is yet to play a single minute in all competitions this term.
Summer signing Micky van de Ven has formed a solid partnership at the back with Cristian Romero and Spurs’ lack of European football means there is less workload for the first-choice duo. Dier has made the match-day squad on just three occasions in nine games and is yet to come off the bench.
He was linked with an exit in the summer but decided to stay and fight for his place after entering the final year of his contract. But a move could be on the cards in the winter transfer window.

According to Bild’s Bayern Insider podcast, Bayern boss Tuchel wants to sign a centre-back in January. Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is said to be his No 1 target.
However, it is claimed that Bayern bosses are against the idea of signing Chalobah and put a stop to it in the summer. The podcast therefore claims it is unlikely Chalobah will make the move to Germany in January.
Tuchel will have to look elsewhere and, as Bild reported earlier this month, Dier is one option being looked at. Dier turns 30 early next year but will come with a good recommendation from close friend Kane.
Kane left Tottenham for Bayern on the eve of the new season. He has hit the ground running, with nine Bundesliga goals to his name as well as one in the Champions League.

Bayern could strike a pre-contract agreement with Dier in order to sign him for free next summer. However, Tuchel may want to add defensive cover during the season and target a January move instead.
Fellow Spurs stalwart Hugo Lloris is also out of the picture under Postecoglou. The Australian coach hasn’t spoken to the duo about their roles.
He said in September: “Maybe I should have the pecking order discussion with them but no I don’t (feel the need) because that would mean I have been treating them differently up until now. Nothing has changed from my perspective and if a player feels the need to seek clarification on something my door is always open, but I haven’t felt the need to speak to them individually about anything.
“They are Tottenham players, they are available for selection and have been since the first day. Nothing has changed.”
