ChatGPT’s best Premier League XI of all-time snubs Roy Keane and other icons
ChatGPT has come up with an all-time Premier League starting XI, and it's as controversial as any fans'.
The likes of Roy Keane, Patrick Vieira and Rio Ferdinand were all snubbed by the AI programme, which picked the line-up by "including players who have consistently demonstrated exceptional skill, impact, and longevity", on behalf of betting experts at Bettingapps.org.
Having opted for a 4-3-3 formation, ChatGPT selected four Manchester United legends, three Chelsea legends, and one each from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and Newcastle.
Peter Schmeichel got the nod between the sticks, while the back four consisted of Gary Neville, Vincent Kompany, John Terry and Ashley Cole. In front of them was a three-man midfield of Steven Gerrard, Paul Scholes and Frank Lampard, while Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry and Alan Shearer were picked up front.

When quizzed about its selection, ChatGPT admitted that a number of iconic stars were unlucky to miss out on a place in the side.
It revealed Petr Cech was a close second to Schmeichel in the race for the No. 1 jersey, and conceded "there were several outstanding defenders" like Nemanja Vidic, Sol Campbell, Ferdinand, Jaap Stam, Kyle Walker, and Virgil van Dijk" who also could have made the team.
Keane and Vieira, who were the poster boys for the generation-defining rivalry between United and Arsenal in the late 90s and early 00s, were arguably the most glaring omissions in midfield, but the chatbot said it considered Yaya Toure, David Silva and Cesc Fabregas too.

Meanwhile in attack, it namedropped Dennis Bergkamp, Didier Drogba, Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero, Andrew Cole, Robbie Fowler and Ruud van Nistelrooy as alternative candidates.
Back in May, Daily Star Sport asked the same software to compile an all-time Premier League XI based solely on stats, and it produced a similarly controversial line-up, with three notable changes to the team above.
Schmeichel was once again picked in goal, while the only change made to the back was Ferdinand coming in for Kompany in central defence. N'Golo Kante was picked ahead of Scholes in midfield and Ryan Giggs was given the nod ahead of Henry in attack.
