FIFA and UEFA acted ‘unlawfully’ with Super League ban as verdict rocks football
The European Court of Justice has today ruled that FIFA and UEFA acted unlawfully in blocking attempts to form a European Super League. In a decision that could have huge rammifications for football and worldwide football, FIFA and UEFA have been told they were abusing their power within the game by creating rules to prevent the creation of a new competition.
Plans to form a European Super League first emerged in April 2021 with 12 teams from Europe’s top five leagues coming together to form an exclusive division. Widespread criticism of the nature of the proposals saw several teams pull out, including all six who had signed up from the Premier League.
