Footballer Cameron Beckles ‘critical but stable’ after collapsing on pitch

Non-league footballer Cameron Beckles is in a "critical but stable" condition in hospital after collapsing on the pitch.

Beckles, who plays for Kent-based club Corinthian FC in the Southern Counties East Football League, fell to the floor during the first half of their Kent Senior Trophy match away at Larkfield & New Hythe on Saturday (November 25).

The match was abandoned while the 20-year-old's health was prioritised, with a statement providing an update on Monday. Posted by Corinthian on social media, it read: "The management, players and in particular the physios of both sides acted swiftly and with complete professionalism and we offer our thanks to Larkfield for this.

"Cam was taken by ambulance to Maidstone Hospital and then transferred to a London hospital for surgery on Saturday night. He then required further surgery on Sunday afternoon and he is currently in a stable but critical condition and will continue to be monitored closely over the next 48 hours.

"All of our thoughts and prayers are with Cam and his family, and we as a football club continue to support them in any way we can."

They added that the match, which was 1-1 at half-time before being called off, will be replayed at a later date, while this coming weekend's fixture against Stansfield has also been postponed.

Manager Michael Golding echoed the sentiments of his club, writing: "The most heartbreaking few days, but nothing compared to what Cam and his family must be going through.

"All my thoughts are with you Cam. A huge thank you and my complete admiration to @amycollinsAC and @LNHFC1961 physio as well as Pete Burke for how they handled the situation."

Beckles' former club Croydon, meanwhile, sent their best wishes. "All at @Croydon_FC would like to wish Cameron Beckles a speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers to you and your family," they responded.
