Forgotten Man Utd flop made one appearance after impressing on three-week trial
Manucho lived the dream when making his debut for Manchester United – but would never play for the club again in the Premier League.
Full name Mateus Alberto Contreiras Goncalves, the forward was already smashing home goals for Angola when he was invited to take part in a three-week trial back in 2008. He continued the fine form he'd shown in his home country to earn a contract, but things didn't go to plan from there.
Manucho impressed both Sir Alex Ferguson and Carlos Queiroz to land a three-year deal and make his domestic bow during a 5-0 win over Stoke in which he played just 16 minutes and created a goal for Danny Welbeck. Ferguson said at the time: "He is a tall, agile, quick forward and through contacts that Carlos has, was brought to our attention around six months ago."

Manucho joined a strike force that included Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez, Wayne Rooney, Louis Saha and Dong Fangzhou.
Despite all the promising signs, Manucho would only make a further two appearances for the club and both in the League Cup before loans at Panathinaikos and Hull and a permanent move to Real Valladolid in 2009.
Manucho went on to play over 100 times for the Spanish outfit and do the same for Rayo Vallecano after further loans at Bucaspor and Manisaspor.
