Glum Sheffield Utd fan turns to reading book in stands while Newcastle run riot

One Sheffield United fan decided to pass the time during the Blades’ 8-0 battering at the hands of Newcastle United by reading a book in the stands.

It was a busy day for Newcastle’s attackers at Bramall Lane, but it was also a workout for the Sky Sports cameras as they had to flick between the action, plenty of Magpies celebrations and even the awkward screen time for the glum home supporters.

A record-breaking Newcastle performance saw all eight goals scored by eight different goalscorers – the most amount of different scorers in one Premier League game by one team. And it all fell apart so quickly for Paul Heckingbottom’s side with the scoreline goalless until the 20th minute.

After a controversial opening goal by Sean Longstaff, which saw the ball strike the hand of Anthony Gordon in the build up, Eddie Howe’s side added two more first half goals to put the game out of the reach of the Blades. And the thrashing was conducted in the second-half as Callum Wilson, Gordon, Miguel Almiron and Bruno Guimaraes all scored within 17 second-half minutes.

And the scoreline became too much for most Sheffield United fans who had headed for the exits long before the 7th had gone in. But one fan decided to stay until the end, and was spotted by the cameras reading a book, something I don’t doubt was more thrilling than watching the Magpies enter cruise control from a Blades point of view.

It would get worse for the Blades as Alexander Isak completed the rout with Toon’s 8th of the afternoon with just three minutes left to play. It’s now back-to-back wins for Newcastle who climbed into the top half of the table. The Blades are now rock bottom of the table with just one point from their six league games.
