Jota's wife calls Liverpool's defeat to Tottenham 'rigged' & blasts 'clown' ref

The wife of Liverpool star Diogo Jota claims the Reds’ defeat to Tottenham was ‘rigged’ after the VAR howler that saw Luis Diaz’s goal ruled out.

Joel Matip’s 96th minute own goal gave Spurs a 2-1 win against Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday but the victory was marred with controversy.

Liverpool were reduced to 10-men when Curtis Jones’ tackle was upgraded to a red card.

Diaz’s opening goal was ruled out for offside by the on-pitch officials and VAR failed to intervene to reverse the decision, despite replays clearly showing the goal was onside. It was later ruled that the VAR officials incorrectly adjudged that the referee had awarded the goal, and therefore did not see fit to ‘intervene’.

Liverpool were then reduced to nine men in the second half when Jota received two yellow cards within 90 seconds of one another.

The nature of the defeat left Jurgen Klopp furious and Liverpool released a statement on Sunday night promising to ‘examine’ their options following an apology from PGMOL.

But Jota’s wife, Rute Cardoso, has taken the anger a step further, claiming the defeat was a ‘rigged game’ and branding the officials ‘clowns’.
