Liverpool and Scotland icon Sir Kenny Dalglish will be celebrated with a lifetime acheivement award at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year ceremony on Tuesday.
Dalglish has been a brilliant servant to football both during his playing career, managerial career and retirement.
The 72-year-old is a legend at his beloved Anfield where he enjoyed tremendous success as a star striker during the late 1970s and further along as Liverpool manager.
Dalglish is also a much-loved member of Scottish football and is credited with being the nation’s most-capped male player and joint record goalscorer
Reacting to the news he would be given the lifetime achievement accolade, Dalglish modestly paid tribute to the value of teamwork.

‘Receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award is truly an honour,’ he told the BBC.
‘I have always believed in the importance of team success, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without all of the players I’ve played with, the people I’ve worked for, and the supporters that stood by me, so this is for them.’
Dalglish won eight league titles and three European Cups at Liverpool and also guided Blackburn from the previous second division to the Premier League title in 1998.
In his post-football retirement, Dalglish was a strong advocate of gaining justice for the tragic Hillsborough disaster having been manager of the club on that day.
The incident had a profound effect on him and was eventually one of the reasons cited for leaving his role as Liverpool manager before he took charge at Blackburn.
He later returned for a second spell managing Liverpool between 2011 and 2012.

Dalglish also won the Premier League title with Blackburn Rovers in 1998
Dalglish has also previously been awarded Liverpool’s Freedom of the City title
Dalglish has previously been awarded Liverpool’s Freedom of the City title for his support of families affected by the Hillsborough disaster.
He paid tribute to how much the club means to him ahead of receiving his upcoming SPOTY award: ‘The football club means everything to ourselves as a family.

‘Glasgow and Liverpool are very similar. Obviously, they have shipyards with two teams in the city.
‘But for me, the people were fantastic as well. They’ve got a real sense of humour and they take time to talk to you,; he added.
