Liverpool backed to sign Andy Robertson replacement as star is ‘only weakness’
Liverpool need to sign a replacement for Andy Robertson in January as he is the only weakness in Jurgen Klopp’s side, according to former Reds winger Jermaine Pennant. He believes Robertson is coming towards the end of his time as a regular starter at Anfield.
Robertson has proven to be one of the best signings in Klopp’s tenure at Liverpool. He joined from Hull in 2017 for a fee of just £8million.
He has gone on to become one of the best in his position in the club’s history. Robertson has made 274 appearances in all competitions for the Reds, winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
The 29-year-old has started all seven Premier League matches so far this season, playing 90 minutes in each of them. But Pennant believes he has now become the weak link in Klopp’s team and needs replacing in the winter window.

Pennant told Lucky Block: “The only weakness I can see, and people may think I’m mad for saying this, is Andy Robertson. I’d like to see Liverpool move for a better left-back in January.
“He’s been a great servant for Liverpool, but I think he’s moving to the end of his career now. I think another attacking left-back will be needed.
“Left-backs aren’t my forte, to be honest. I would have been happy with Joao Cancelo as he can play on the right or left. I was disappointed Liverpool didn’t move for him, but I’m sure their recruitment team have other irons in the fire.
“They are. There used to be loads of them with the likes of Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines, but that’s not the case anymore.”

Pennant also thinks Liverpool need to add further depth to their centre-back options in an upcoming window. Ibrahima Konate has started just two Premier League matches so far this term due to injury.
He added: “As good as Liverpool were [defensively against Tottenham], I’d still say their Achilles heel is their defence. They need a better centre-back. Konate is injured and is out quite a bit, so I’d like to see them sign another one.
“Ruben Dias would be great, but I can’t see him leaving City anytime soon. There aren’t many top, top centre-backs available. I think Liverpool may need to raid RB Leipzig again! They always seem to get their recruitment right.”
