Liverpool star Harvey Elliott claims Reds are ‘lucky’ after Wolves win
Wolves V Liverpool: Pictures
Harvey Elliott says Liverpool are “lucky” to have Andy Robertson after the stand-in captain inspired the comeback win at Wolves on Saturday. The Reds came from 1-0 down to win 3-1 at Molineux courtesy of a second-half fightback with the left-back scoring their second goal.
Robertson fired the visitors into the lead on 85 minutes following a clever pass-and-move combination with Mohamed Salah. On what was his 200th Premier League appearance for the Anfield outfit, Robertson also wore the captain’s armband in the absence of new skipper Virgil van Dijk and his No 2 Trent Alexander-Arnold.
But despite missing two big characters, Liverpool – led by the fiery Robertson – still showed huge personality to earn the full three points. Victory, which Elliott added to with a stoppage-time strike that officially went down as a Hugo Bueno own goal due to a deflection, sees the Merseyside club sat on 13 points from an available 15 in the Premier League table.
They have only slipped up away at Chelsea having also overcome tough tests against Bournemouth (they went 1-0 down and had Alexis Mac Allister sent off at 2-1 up), Newcastle (1-0 down with Van Dijk sent off) and Aston Villa (one of the league’s form teams) before this.
And Elliott is grateful to have a figure like Robertson in the group after their latest show of force in the Black Country. The 20-year-old midfielder said: “He’s always energetic – he brings energy into the group. When everyone’s deflated, he’s always there to pick us up.
“He keeps us going – it’s that natural Scottish energy of his. I was so happy for him [to score]. What a way to finish the game. He drove that goal himself. That’s him. It’s amazing to play with him. He’s a great character to have in the dressing-room.
“He’s always raring people on – like most Scotsmen, he’s as funny as anything too. We’re lucky to have him.” Off the back of their four-match winning run, Liverpool kick off their Europa League campaign this midweek in Austria. But in the Premier League a difficult four-game run awaits them.
West Ham are the next visitors to Anfield on Sunday. The Hammers lost 3-1 to Manchester City this weekend but before that had beaten both Chelsea and Brighton 3-1. They represent formidable opposition after clever summer signings like Edson Alvarez, Mohammed Kudus and James Ward-Prowse.

After that, Liverpool face an in-form Tottenham in north London. Spurs’ 98th-minute winner against Sheffield United means they have the same record as the Reds – though their unbeaten run could come to an end in their derby against Arsenal this Sunday. Nonetheless Ange Postecoglou has transformed the mood, and the playing style, completely at Spurs.
After that, Jurgen Klopp’s side face Brighton away from home. They lost 3-0 in the league at the Amex, and 2-1 in the FA Cup, last season and the Seagulls have some impressive results this season. They dismissed Newcastle 3-1 at home before beating Manchester United by the same scoreline at Old Trafford this weekend.
Rounding off that rocky league run on October 21 is a Merseyside derby against Everton. While the Toffees have struggled this season and loom around the relegation zone, they will no doubt raise their game across Stanley Park where they have still not won in front of a crowd since 1999.
