Luton boss Edwards cries on pitch as game abandoned after Tom Lockyer collapse

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards couldn’t hold back the tears on the pitch after Saturday’s Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth was abandoned. Hatters defender Tom Lockyer’s worrying collapse on the hour mark led to an abandonment at the Vitality Stadium.

Elijah Adebayo had fired the visitors ahead after just three minutes before Dominic Solanke equalised in the 58th minute, moments before the incident.

Edwards sprinted onto the pitch to clear the way so paramedics could attend to Lockyer as players, staff and fans watched on in uncomfortable silence.

Officials sent both teams back to their dressing rooms before the 29-year-old was taken off the pitch on a stretcher to applause following several minutes of treatment.

Reports from the ground said Lockyer was “alert and responsive” before the Premier League announced that the game had been abandoned.

“The match between AFC Bournemouth and Luton Town FC has been abandoned due to a player medical incident,” a statement read.

“Our thoughts are with Tom Lockyer and all players involved in today’s match.”
