Man Utd discussing second Jadon Sancho swap deal as Barcelona ‘receive proposal’

McTominay insists Man Utd squad remain fully behind Ten Hag

Jadon Sancho is widely expected to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window, with an initial loan viewed as the most likely outcome. But Barcelona have reportedly entered the frame for a potential swap deal as Erik ten Hag looks to fill the void the £73million flop has left in his attack.

Sancho hasn’t played for United since August, entering the fourth month of his banishment from Ten Hag’s senior squad.

The 23-year-old winger has been asked to apologise for effectively calling his manager a liar on social media over his exclusion from the squad that travelled to Arsenal at the start of September.

But there is little sign of reconciliation, and a departure to end his underwhelming Old Trafford career seems imminent.

Earlier this month, BILD reported that Sancho was the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund, where he left for United in 2021.

There was claimed to have been a meeting in Dortmund to discuss a potential swap deal with Donyell Malen, who is eyeing a Premier League switch.

But reports in Spain have thrown Barcelona into the mix, which could involve Raphinha’s return to English football.

According to Sport, Ten Hag is fed up with Sancho and has asked United to offload him in January, suggesting a swap deal as an option.

The Dutchman is said to accept that no team would pay the £73m fee United splurged for Sancho’s signature two years ago and is exploring alternative options.

The report adds that Barcelona have put Raphinha forward, with the 26-year-old winger underwhelming in Catalonia.

Raphinha has registered 12 goals and 17 assists since Barca signed him from Leeds United in a £55m deal last summer.

But his output has dropped this term, which has been hampered by injuries, scoring just twice and providing five assists in 15 appearances.

Ten Hag splashed £85m to sign a left-footed winger in Antony last summer, with Mason Greenwood out of the first-team picture.

Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo are the Brazilian’s competition, but both lack senior experience and Ten Hag often uses Marcus Rashford on his less preferred side to cover.

Whether Raphinha would fancy abandoning his dream transfer to play for United, Leeds’ bitter rivals, is another question entirely.

More clubs could soon come forward with a swap deal in mind, but even if a loan remains the only possibility, it would be a surprise to see Sancho at Old Trafford beyond January.
