Man Utd make triple transfer plan as board left concerned by Rasmus Hojlund form
Manchester United will reportedly look to sign another stirker in the January window to ‘ease the burden’ on Rasmus Hojlund with Ivan Toney among three options being considered. Hojlund’s arrival at Old Trafford has coincided with a worrying dip in form under Erik ten Hag with the Red Devils struggling on all fronts.
Back-to-back heavy defeats to Manchester City and Newcastle have ramped up the pressure on the United boss to turn things around. But the matches also highlighted United’s lack of firepower as they’ve scored just 11 goals in 10 league matches.
Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes are currently the only United players to have scored more than once in the league. United had similar issues in front of goal last season with only Aston Villa scoring less than them out of the teams who finished in the top nine.
Hojlund was signed with the hope he could fix the club’s goalscoring woes, but he’s been unable to hit the ground running at Old Trafford. United will now reportedly look to re-enter the market for more firepower in the January window to help their £72million signing.
According to the Daily Mail, United believe Hojlund would ‘benefit from working alongside a more experienced centre-forward’. It’s suggested that United will look to target a new striker in January with the hope it can help kickstart Hojlund’s career.
The recruitment staff are said to be looking all over Europe for potential options, but Brentford star Toney is named as a target. The England star will be available from January 17 after his ban comes to an end and is expected to seek a move away from Brentford with Chelsea and Arsenal also expressing an interest.

Victor Osimhen and Porto star Mehdi Taremi are the other two names United are said to be considering. Taremi would fit the mould of an experienced striker, but he’s only been playing European football since 2019 having played the majority of his career in the Middle East.
He has impressed in the Portuguese top flight with Porto though as he finished last season with 31 goals in all competitions. Toney would likely offer more of a guarantee for what United are buying given his terrific form in the Premier League for a number of years.
But there will be some concern over his match fitness with Toney’s last match being back in May. A move for Osimhen would not come cheap with Napoli keen to keep hold of the 24-year-old who led them to Serie A glory last season.
