Man Utd star Onana facing ‘consequences’ for blunders as De Gea return spotted

Man Utd’s five worst decisions since Erik ten Hag took over

Manchester United and Andre Onana are facing frustrating consequences for his early blunders since completing a £47million summer transfer, according to Louis Saha. But the former Red Devils striker has played down suggestions that David de Gea could make a shock return to the club just months after Erik ten Hag axed him.

Onana has conceded 19 goals in his first 11 games, keeping just three clean sheets and committing a number of high-profile errors.

It has sparked criticism of Ten Hag, who opted to replace De Gea as his No 1 in the summer, ending an 11-year stay at Old Trafford.

The Dutchman reportedly wanted a goalkeeper more comfortable with his feet to aid the playing style he is attempting to implement at United.

But Onana hasn’t convinced with his shot-stopping ability, looking a shadow of the ‘keeper who helped Inter Milan reach last season’s Champions League final.

And Saha believes the consequences of his mistakes are becoming clearer while United continue struggling to record positive results.

“Onana has had a very bad start, and he hasn’t had a game where he’s been able to save the team,” Saha told King Casino Bonus.

“He’s very good on the ball, and he was signed to give Man United another option in terms of playing style, but his ability hasn’t compensated for his performances yet.

“It’s good to have a modern goalkeeper, but his main job is to make saves. It’s obvious that Onana is frustrated – you can see it on his face.

“He cost United the game during midweek [vs Galatasaray], and we’re starting to see the consequences of his mistakes. He’s still a talented goalkeeper, though, and he’ll have to work hard to defy what’s currently going on.”

De Gea caused a frenzy among United fans by confirming he was back in Manchester on his Instagram story with an image of what looked to be a padel court.

But Saha has backed Onana to come good in M16 and has shut down any expectation of De Gea making a surprise comeback.

He added: “Onana is clearly stuck in his head, and perhaps he has to physically adapt to English football.

“I’m still confident, though, and I’m backing him to turn his form around despite the debate around his signature.

“United have to move on from David De Gea as he won’t be coming back! The discussion around Andre Onana will continue, but I’m still backing him.”
