Man Utd team news vs Bayern Munich with two players punished by Erik ten Hag

McTominay insists Man Utd squad remain fully behind Ten Hag

Manchester United must beat Bayern Munich to avoid crashing out of the Champions League group stage on Tuesday. Express Sport looks at how Erik ten Hag could line up on a must-win night at Old Trafford, including two changes from Saturday’s shock 3-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth.

Goalkeeper – Onana

It’s no overstatement to suggest that United would likely have secured progression into the last 16 by now if not for Andre Onana’s howlers in Europe.

But Ten Hag has kept his faith in the Cameroon goalkeeper, and he will need him to be a hero if United are to consider this daunting week a success.

Defence – Dalot, Maguire, Evans, Shaw

Ten Hag can’t leave his defence unchanged after shipping three goals at home to Bournemouth, and it’s unlikely he will.

Diogo Dalot seems to have restored his status as first-choice right-back, with Harry Maguire likely to start ahead of Raphael Varane again.

Sergio Reguilon was poor at the weekend, so he could be the one to drop out, with Luke Shaw pushing back over to left-back.

Jonny Evans played 15 minutes at the end of the Bournemouth defeat and may reignite his partnership with Maguire.

Midfield – Amrabat, McTominay, Fernandes

Casemiro, Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen’s continued absences leave Ten Hag’s senior options thin.

Ten Hag cited Sofyan Amrabat’s experience as the reason he started over Kobbie Mainoo in the 3-3 draw at Galatasaray. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him start again against Bayern.

Scott McTominay held the pre-match press conference next to the Dutch boss, suggesting he will keep his place in midfield.

And captain Bruno Fernandes is more of a banker than usual, considering his late yellow card against Bournemouth has ruled him out of the weekend’s trip to Liverpool.

Attack – Antony, Garnacho, Hojlund

Ten Hag may be tempted to recall Marcus Rashford to his starting lineup for the same reason as starting Amrabat over Mainoo, and given the toothless nature of United’s defeat last time out.

Alejandro Garnacho would likely be the player sacrificed after a prolonged run of starts on the left. However, Garnacho’s fearless approach could prove crucial on a night United need goals.

Ten Hag will be keen to maintain Antony’s consistency by keeping his £85million signing in the team. And Rasmus Hojlund is bound to return to the starting lineup over Anthony Martial.

The young Dane has struggled in the Premier League but has notched five goals in as many Champions League games this season.
