Man Utd team news vs Liverpool as Bruno Fernandes ban forces major decision
‘The 7-0 was a freak result!’ | Jurgen Klopp previews Liverpool’s clash with Man Utd
Manchester United will be without several key names for Sunday’s already-daunting Premier League trip to Liverpool, none more important than suspended captain Bruno Fernandes. Express Sport runs through how Erik ten Hag could line up at Anfield nine months on from that 7-0 mauling in March.
Goalkeeper – Onana
Andre Onana won’t have to be at his best to better David de Gea’s performance in that seven-goal humiliation earlier this year.
The Cameroon international is bound to be busy at Anfield, though, and there will be little room for more blunders.
Defence – Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Shaw, Dalot
Harry Maguire has been ruled out of the trip to Merseyside, halting his impressive renaissance as Ten Hag’s first-choice right-sided centre-back.
His absence should help Raphael Varane start back-to-back games – a rarity in recent weeks – alongside Luke Shaw. Victor Lindelof’s availability is unknown after missing Tuesday’s Bayern Munich defeat with a knock.
Shaw operating in a central role could see Diogo Dalot favoured over Sergio Reguilon at left-back, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka back in the starting lineup at right-back.
All four members of Ten Hag’s backline will have to be at their best to resist what is expected to be a storm of Liverpool pressure.

Midfield – Amrabat, Hannibal, McTominay
Fernandes joins midfielders Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Mason Mount on the unavailable list at Liverpool due to his late booking in the 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.
Loanee Sofyan Amrabat will likely start again, as will Scott McTominay, possibly in an even more advanced role to cover for Fernandes.
Kobbie Mainoo doesn’t appear fully fit after dropping out of the side despite a promising first Premier League start in the 3-0 win at Everton in November.
Hannibal Mejbri played more minutes than the 18-year-old off the bench in midweek and could be on the pitch from the off this weekend.

Attack – Antony, Garnacho, Hojlund
Anthony Martial will miss another game through illness but Ten Hag has confirmed that Marcus Rashford is back in contention after missing the Bayern clash with a similar issue.
The Dutchman may stick with the same front three that started against the Bundesliga champions, though, with Rashford unlikely to be at 100 per cent.
Antony and Alejandro Garnacho’s pace on the wings will be crucial to United’s expected counter-attacking approach at Anfield.
But they must also provide service for Rasmus Hojlund, who remains frustrated with his lack of chances to open his Premier League account. There wouldn’t be a much better time to do so.
