Manchester United’s flight to Newcastle has been cancelled due to icy weather, throwing their preparations into chaos.

Erik ten Hag’s side will now take a three-hour coach to their game which kicks off at 8pm on Saturday.

United travel to St James’ Park to take on Newcastle United as they look to put Wednesday night’s Champions League collapse against Galatasaray behind them and recover their recent good run of form in the Premier League.

The flight, which was scheduled to depart Manchester Airport and saw players arriving by car from 10:00am, was cancelled after temperatures in Manchester dropped below -5 degrees last night and yellow warnings for snow and ice still remain in place by the Met Office on Saturday morning.

Football matches across the country have already been postponed due to the freezing temperatures, with Crewe Alexandra’s FA Cup clash against Bristol Rovers and the entire racing schedule at Newcastle also postponed.

An amber cold health alert has also been issued by the UK Health Security Agency across the East Midlands, West Midlands, North West, North East, Yorkshire and Humberside until December, 5.

Ten Hag is desperate for his side to bounce back following their midweek disappointment against a Magpies side one place and a point below them in the table.

The Red Devils twice surrendered a two-goal advantage in Turkey, leading 2-0 and 3-1 before a number of costly Andre Onana howlers saw Galatasaray rescue a 3-3 draw and leave United’s Champions League knockout stage qualification hanging by a thread.
