Mason Greenwood ‘can’t believe how well it has gone’ as Getafe debut nears
Jadon Sancho to train away from Man Utd squad until ‘discipline issue’ resolved
Mason Greenwood has been left surprised at how well his move to Getafe on a season-long loan has panned out for him since joining the La Liga outfit. The forward has received a warm welcome in Spain after moving on loan until the end of the season, following Manchester United’s decision with the player to allow him to leave the club this summer to further his career.
The Spanish side have made no secret of the fact that they are overjoyed with their acquisition, and Greenwood appears to be equally pleased to be at the club. Reports suggest that he has been welcomed into the squad with open arms, with partner Harriet Robson also ‘taken in by the WAGs’.
A source close to the player was quoted in the Daily Mail saying: “For Mason and his family it has been a breath of fresh air. For a long time, his life in Manchester was restricted to his house. In Spain, he can go to the supermarket and the restaurant and if people recognise him they are warm towards him.
“The fear he had in the UK is not there anymore. It’s early, but he can’t believe how well it has gone so far.”

Following a six-month internal investigation, the Red Devils announced in August that they would not be reintegrating Greenwood into the first team and that he would be allowed to leave before the transfer window closed.
The England international was arrested in January 2022 and later charged with attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive control, which he denied. The Crown Prosecution Service announced in February of this year that they had discontinued their case, prompting United to conduct their own investigation before deciding whether to allow the player to return.
United were reportedly initially keen for Greenwood to slot into Erik ten Hag’s side, but it soon became clear that the backlash that the academy product and the club would face would be immense.

Following a club statement that put the 21-year-old in the shop window, Getafe pounced to secure his services in a loan deal and strike a deal which meant that they would not have to pay a fee for the season-long stint.
Weeks later, Greenwood could be set to make his debut this weekend when his new club take on Osasuna on Sunday.
The Spanish side have won just one of their opening four La Liga matches so far this season, although their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid prior to the international break has given the team hope of bouncing back to form.
Having not played a competitive match since January 2022, it is likely that it will take Greenwood some time to return to match fitness, despite training regularly throughout this year in an attempt to be ready for United’s internal investigation to conclude.
