Furious Manchester United fans have blasted Scott McTominay for showing a ‘disgusting’ lack of desire to win the ball back just 10 minutes after coming on in his side’s 4-3 defeat by Bayern Munich on Wednesday.

With United trailing 3-1 and changes needed, Erik ten Hag decided to sub on McTominay in the 69th minute in the place of Christian Eriksen.

However, just 10 minutes into his cameo, the Scotland international loses the ball on the edge of Bayern’s area before showing to will or urgency to win the ball back.

Damning footage of the incident sent United fans into a fury, as they labelled the midfielder’s lack of desire as ‘disgusting’ as he casually jogged back to defend while Bayern burst into life and counter-attacked.

A United fan account shared the clip of McTominay, pointing out how he had only been on the pitch for 10 minutes when the incident occurred.

They tweeted: ’69th minute – Scott McTominay comes on. 79th minute – Scott McTominay loses the ball and there’s no desire and sprint to win it back Unacceptable!’

Other United fans agreed with the criticism, labelling McTominay’s efforts as ‘disgraceful’.

‘Disgraceful and uncharacteristic for Scott — there’s something badly going wrong behind the scenes,’ another X user wrote.

One social media user accused the 26-year-old of showing that little effort that he was getting out-paced by the referee.

United went 2-0 down at the Allianz Arena after Andre Onana’s howler gifted Leroy Sane the opener in the 28th minute before Serge Gnabry doubled the host’s advantage four minutes later.

They pulled one back through new £72million striker Ramus Hojlund but again wilted after Harry Kane’s controversial penalty restored Bayern’s two-goal lead.

Casemiro scored two late goals for Ten Hag’s team, either side of Mathys Tel adding a fourth for the hosts in stoppage time.

The defeat means the struggling Red Devils have now lost four of their first six games in 2023-24, including three in a row.
