Newcastle’s Kieran Trippier was pulled away from his side’s travelling section after becoming embroiled in a spat with a supporter after their loss at Bournemouth.

After Dominic Solanke’s second-half double condemned Eddie Howe’s injury-hit visitors to defeat, Newcastle’s players trudged over to applaud the away contingent.

There, however, Trippier was spotted taking exception to a comment from one individual, with the efforts of the defender’s team-mates seemingly questioned.

Joelinton stepped in to remove Trippier from the situation, though the latter was caught on camera challenging the supporter and pointing to the list of absentees.

Howe then consoled the 33-year-old before they disappeared down the tunnel.

Responding to the supporter, Trippier was heard shouting: ‘So the lads are not giving everything? How many injuries have we got, how many injuries have we got? Hey?’

But during his post-match media duties, Trippier was questioned on the argument but looked to play down its significance, insisting there is no need to panic.

‘The fans are emotional, of course they are,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘They have travelled a long way, they spend a lot of money to come and watch us.

‘I was just having a chat with one of them, I said we are giving everything.

‘There is no need to panic, we are still in a good position in the league, we are still in the Champions League, Carabao Cup quarter-finals, there is no need to panic.

‘We got beat, we do apologise for that result, but the most important thing is that the lads are giving everything. We are giving more under the circumstances.’

Boss Eddie Howe consoled the full back and later played down the significance of the incident

Boss Howe also commented on the incident, saying: ‘Kieran is fine.

‘Emotions run high, we all feel emotional. No problems. We thank all of our away support, that was tough for them today.’

Newcastle’s followers made the 700-mile round trip down to the south coast to watch the defeat just days after their Champions League loss at Borussia Dortmund.

Howe’s injury list now stands at 12, with Miguel Almiron having limped out of the showdown with an apparent hamstring issue to add to his manager’s nightmare.

Callum Wilson, Alexander Isak, Dan Burn, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy are among those ruled out, while Sandro Tonali is suspended after betting offences.
