Parker rinses ‘selfish’ and ‘petulant’ Rashford with contract regret claim
Erik ten Hag previews Burnley clash
Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has ripped into Marcus Rashford over his start to the season, branding him a ‘selfish’ player who acts like a ‘petulant child’ on the pitch. Parker hasn’t held back in his assessment of Rashford, who has so far failed to build on his career-best 2022/23 campaign.
The 25-year-old forward has scored just one goal in six appearances this term, with United losing four of those games.
Rashford entered the season high in confidence after scoring 30 goals in Erik ten Hag’s maiden campaign as United boss and penning a new long-term contract earlier this year.
But he has struggled to turn games into the Red Devils’ favour in recent weeks, garnering strong criticism from Parker on Friday.
Parker didn’t shy away from calling out Rashford’s frailties during his sensational 22/23 season, and his opposition to the United No 10 has grown louder now that goals have dried up.
“I was criticising Rashford when he scored goals because I wanted him to provide more for the team. Now, he is not scoring goals anymore, and his decision-making is still poor,” Parker told MyBettingSites.

“Everyone was saying that he was winning Man United games, but the only thing they could come up with is that he was scoring goals.
“It has taken people a while, but now they are finally seeing that he is not contributing to anything.
“He should be because he is a fast winger with decent technical abilities, but in fact, he is just a selfish player who lives on the back of being good in February.
“I think that Man United rushed in too quickly to give him this huge contract. Overall, he has been delivering a poor return throughout his Man United career. That’s a fact.”

Parker didn’t stop there, doubting that clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid were interested in him and accusing him of ‘faking injuries’ rather than helping his team defensively.
He added: “What he is doing is something you would expect to see in a schoolyard from a petulant child. You wouldn’t expect it to happen at Old Trafford. Not in a million years.
“But he does that every single time, and it shows me that he might not be a player for Man United after all. He needs to change his game and his attitude.”
Rashford is one of several United players to have underwhelmed at the start of the season. Ten Hag needs him to make an impact in Saturday’s Premier League trip to Burnley.
