Haaland, who scored 36 goals in his first season in the Premier League to help fire City to the title, topped the votes ahead of John Stones, Kevin de Bruyne, Saka, Martin Odegaard and Harry Kane.

Haaland was also included in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year alongside his City teammates De Bruyne, Rodri, Stones and Ruben Dias.

‘It’s an honour to win this prestigious award,’ Haaland said.

‘To be recognised by your competitors is a great feeling and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.

‘It was an unforgettable season for the team and for me personally. Winning the Treble was something I never imagined, so to achieve that with such a special group of players was an amazing feeling.

‘John, Rodri, Ruben and Kevin all deserve their place in the Team of the Year and I am delighted that their efforts have been rewarded with this recognition too.

‘We created some incredible memories last season, but now we want to do the same again this year. We have started the season well and we need to keep going.’

Chelsea’s Lauren James was voted PFA Young Player of the Year.
