Rio Ferdinand has praised Marc Guehi, saying that the Crystal Palace defender steps up ‘at every level’.
Guehi, who has attracted interest from Arsenal, started in England’s 1-1 draw with Ukraine last weekend.
The centre-back gave a good account of himself and drew praise from Ferdinand.
With John Stones out injured, Guehi was selected to start alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence.
There has been much debate regarding Maguire’s continued inclusion in the England side despite the fact that he isn’t a regular starter for Manchester United.

Ferdinand says selecting Maguire could have an adverse impact on the morale of England’s centre-backs.
However, the former Manchester United defender reserved praise for Guehi.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: ‘My biggest concern would be the confidence and morale of the other players in that position. So he’s basically saying I’ve got no other centre halves who I can trust at all.
‘John Stones, who’s the best England centre-half around at the moment is injured. ‘I’ve got to find a replacement’. Marc Guehi comes in. He just seemed to be able to step up at every level he gets asked to step up to. He steps up comfortably.’
Guehi was making his fifth senior appearance for England and will hope that he also features in some capacity against Scotland.
The 23-year-old has received much praise for his displays for Crystal Palace, which has led to suggestions that he could end up moving elsewhere.
Guehi started his career at Chelsea but made just two first-team appearances for the Blues and had two loan spells at Swansea.
He has represented England at every level from Under-16s upwards.
