Ronaldo shows true colours after scoring another two goals in Al-Nassr win
Cristiano Ronaldo changes retirement plan as he refuses to let go of Lionel Messi rivalry
Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the Man of the Match award as Al-Nassr defeated Qatari side Al-Duhail 4-3 in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday night. The Portuguese legend bagged two goals to bring his season tally up to 20 in all competitions this year.
His excellent scoring form means he has already surpassed the 14 goals he grabbed in his first six months with the Saudi Pro League side during the 2022-2023 campaign while he remains en route to breaking the record for the most goals scored in a single season by a player plying their trade in Saudi Arabia.
But Ronaldo isn’t particularly concerned about personal records as long as Al-Nassr keep on winning. The 38-year-old showed his true colours during his post-match interview as he humbly placed the success of the team above his own.
“I don’t care much about records,” he said. “I’m just thinking about enjoying it at the moment. Our team is improving from one match to another. Our coach and the technical staff are making a great effort to make Al-Nassr the strongest team.
“The key to continuing to achieve records is that I am having fun, and this is a beautiful thing in football and the secret of my continuity.” When asked about what sets him apart from his peers, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner replied: “I am happy that I scored goals and performed well, but Cristiano is different from others.
“I work well, and in the end what I achieve comes with the help of my colleagues and the technical staff and most importantly I am having fun at the moment and helping Al-Nassr and the Portuguese team.”

Ronaldo will be hoping he can help secure Al-Nassr a maiden AFC Champions League crown and their first Saudi Pro League title since 2019 this season after narrowly missing out on the top spot to Al-Ittihad last year. The PIF-owned club have brought in plenty of reinforcements in the summer to ensure their goals are achieved.
Star wingers Sadio Mane and Otavio were bought for a combined £78.5million to help bolster their Ronaldo-led front three. Meanwhile, Seko Fofana and Marcelo Brozovic’s services were acquired to hold down the fort in the centre of the park. Ex-Premier League defenders Aymeric Laporte and Alex Telles were also purchased after stints in Manchester.
