It seems there is no escape for Manchester City supporters after they are targeted by a rowdy snooker fan at a tournament.
The atmosphere, or alleged lack of it, at the Etihad has long been used as a stick to beat City with by their rival Premier League supporters. It has even been dubbed the ‘Emptyhad’ by many fans.
Snooker is usually the last sporting event where you’d expect lively fans to start chanting, but the current Snooker Shootout in Swansea is a tournament with a difference. It is high-speed tournament, where matches last a maximum of 10 minutes with a 15-second shot clock for the first five minutes and 10 seconds for the last five.

Fans are welcome – even encouraged – to make themselves heard, similarly to darts, where noisy crowds are the norm. The explainer on the World Snooker Tour’s website states: “Fans are encouraged to interact with the players and enjoy the occasion!”
During the day one match between Lukas Kleckers and Stuart Bingham one fan wasn’t happy with the lack of atmosphere so started chanting: “This is a library, this is a library” before adding: “It’s like the Etihad, it’s like the Etihad,” which drew laughter from the audience, which then noticeable perked up, with more shouts then being heard.

At one point the language got a little fruity for the referee’s liking as he asked the crowd to keep it clean, while the Eurosport commentators apologised to anyone offended by any rude words. Kleckers went on to beat former world champion Bingham 84-29.
The tournament features several snooker big guns, including Mark Allen, Jimmy White, Hossein Vafaei and Shaun Murphy. First round matches are taking place across today (Wednesday) and Thursday with the final on Saturday.
