‘Santa’ Ricky Evans says Man Utd will beat Liverpool after Ally Pally darts win

Ricky Evans will have made a few enemies at Alexandra Palace – and not just darts players.

That's after the Northamptonshire native cast his prediction for an unlikely Manchester United win at Anfield on Sunday. Premier League title contenders Liverpool host their most bitter rivals seeking a 12th straight home win across all competitions, while the Red Devils are in dire straits travelling to Merseyside.

But that didn't prevent Evans backing his club for an upset against the odds in the wake of his own win at Ally Pally. 'Rapid' lived up to his nickname with a fast and furious 3-0 win over Simon Adams before splitting public opinion in his post-match interview.

The 33-year-old gave an honest breakdown of his performance before signing off with a short and sweet prediction. "Can I say," uttered Evans before parting ways with the microphone. "Man United beat Liverpool tonight."

His statement was met with some doubt from the audience as a hum of boos could be heard from those down below. That's after there was already controversy at Alexandra Palace, where fans were heard mocking Liverpool in a sick chant of "feed the Scousers".

Erik ten Hag's men would be hard-pressed to live up to Evans' forecast in their current shape. United come into the fixture sat eighth in the Premier League and with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire all missing.

Jurgen Klopp's side, on the other hand, are flying high on the back of three straight Premier League wins. The Reds can move back above Arsenal to the top of the table with a win over United, eager to capitalise after Manchester City drew at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday.

As routine as Evans' first-round match at Ally Pally might have been, a harder task awaits in Nathan Aspinall next up. And his mood could be complicated should United suffer another humbling at Anfield.
