Thomas Tuchel’s assistant manager at Bayern Munich has been tipped as a ‘leading candidate’ for the currently vacant Republic of Ireland job.

Following a dismal Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, Ireland decided to part ways with Stephen Kenny.

Since then, both Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce have thrown their hats into the ring for the role.

Bruce, who has been unemployed since his sacking from Championship side West Brom in 2022, said he is ‘itching’ to get back to work following his longest spell out of football.

Now it has been revealed that Tuchel’s right-hand man Anthony Barry is being tipped for the role as well.

Thomas Tuchel originally poached Antony Barry from Chelsea to help him at Munich

The 37-year-old from Liverpool was playing lower-league football until 2017 – lastly at Wrexham – when he went into coaching with Paul Cook at Wigan.

After that, he moved to Chelsea to work under Frank Lampard before he helped Tuchel win a Champions League.

In April the German coach then poached him when he was manager of Bayern.

Barry has also had international experience after he helped Roberto Martinez with the Portugal squad heading into the Euros next year.

Ireland still face a tough ask to land Barry as a coach with Premier League and Championship clubs all targeting him in the last 12 months, especially Swansea City.
