Novak Djokovic ‘undoubtedly the GOAT’ as second rival hails Serb after Nadal
Halep given four-year ban from tennis over doping offences
Novak Djokovic has been hailed as the best tennis player of all time by Stefanos Tsitsipas following the Serb’s record-matching 24th Grand Slam. The 36-year-old has received praise from plenty of stars since his success, with Rafael Nadal also making it no secret this week that he believes that Djokovic is the best in the business.
Djokovic wrote his name, once more, into the history books when he beat Daniil Medvedev in the US Open final earlier this month. Now joint with Margaret Court for Grand Slam successes, he will have his eye on the Australia Open in the hope of claiming the record for himself.
Following his success, Djokovic’s rivals have not shied away from praising the world No 1, and Tsitsipas is the latest star to emerge with words of admiration. He told Tennis Majors: “He is no doubt the best, going by numbers. He breaks record after record. He also has the thirst, even though he has nothing to prove anymore.
“That’s how he’s wired. He’s never happy; it’s like he’s always trying to prove something to someone. I don’t know what or to whom. It’s like he always wants a rematch.”

That comes after similar praise from Nadal. The Spaniard also shares the same viewpoint as Tsitsipas that Djokovic is the GOAT in men’s tennis.
Nadal insisted the numbers say it all, telling AS: “I believe that numbers are numbers and statistics are statistics. In that sense, I think he (Djokovic) has better numbers than mine and that is indisputable. This is the truth.
“The rest are tastes, inspiration, sensations that one or the other may transmit to you, that you may like one or the other more. I think that with respect to titles, Djokovic is the best in history and there is nothing to discuss about that.”

Nadal has yet to congratulate Djokovic on his 24th Grand Slam though and admitted to Movistar+: “The truth is that I haven’t sent any message to Djokovic yet out of pure ignorance. When you win something so important, from experience I know it’s better to take the time to appreciate that message.
“I’ll send it but I haven’t done it yet. Of course, I sent messages to Alcaraz when he won or when he was about to win. The others – on the circuit I don’t have many friends left, I’m from another generation. I talk to [Roger] Federer every now and then.”
