Andy Murray slams Tyson Fury’s crossover fight with MMA champion Francis Ngannou as a ‘bad look for boxing’ and compares the bout in Saudi Arabia to tennis and squash players taking each other on

Sir Andy Murray has criticised Saturday night’s crossover boxing match between Tyson Fury and former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. 

Despite a sluggish performance, Fury was awarded the win by split decision in Saudi Arabia. 

Ngannou did not look out of place in the boxing ring, knocking the WBC heavyweight champion to the canvas in the third round.

Many who saw the fight felt that Ngannou should have been awarded the win by the judges. 

However, two-time Wimbledon winner Murray was less than impressed by the spectacle in Riyadh.

Fury just did enough to hold to defeat former UFC champion Ngannou, beating him in a split decision verdict

Ngannou knocked Fury to the canvas in the third round of the contest, with many spectators suggesting the boxing novice should have been judged the winner

He posted on X (formerly Twitter): ‘ How many points would the world no1 squash player win vs the world number 1 tennis player in a tennis match and vice versa? Im thinking close to zero for both….bad look for boxing.’

Whilst the comparison may make light of the event itself, there can be no doubt that it attracted a star-studded audience in Riyadh. 

A number of famous faces were in attendance in Riyadh, including UFC fighter Conor McGregor

And footballing superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, who now plays his club football for Saudi side Al-Nassr

Fury looks set to fight Oleksandr Usyk, but plans for an undisputed clash nearly went up in smoke in Riyadh

Kanye West, Conor McGregor and Cristiano Ronaldo were among those in attendance to see Fury battle his way to victory.

However, not everything went smoothly on the night, with fans criticising the opening ceremony and broadcasters TNT Sport coming under fire after their broadcast of the fight went down just 40 minutes into the show. 

Oleksandr Usyk was also ringside to see how his fellow heavyweight got on, but was unlikely to be overly worried by what he saw ahead of the upcoming contest between the pair. 

The Ukrainian said he felt that Fury has not taken the Ngannou fight seriously and was not reading into it too much of ahead of the heavyweight unification bout.
