Lewis Hamilton commits to Mercedes until 2025
As if Max Verstappen needed another record to cement his dominance in 2023, the Red Bull star notched his 10th consecutive race win at the Italian Grand Prix to set a new F1 benchmark. It was also a celebratory day for Ferrari, who put their patchy form behind them at Monza to take third and fourth behind the Red Bulls.

Carlos Sainz’s podium meant a lot to the tifosi, whose usual raucous support provided an exciting backdrop to the action in Italy. Mercedes had to settle for fifth and sixth, with Lewis Hamilton forced to fight his way through the field after calling out Verstappen for the standard of his team-mates last week.
Toto Wolff is the latest to take a pop at the Dutchman, downplaying his record-breaking win streak as insignificant. But Verstappen has two weeks to bask in his achievement ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix later this month.

Horner called out
Sky Sports pundit Ted Kravitz believes that Christian Horner’s comments on Carlos Sainz after the Italian Grand Prix were ‘not cool’.
Ferrari star Sainz defended with all his might against Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, but ultimately had to settle for third.
“Carlos was very robust, he was a little late at times, he moved a bit,” said Horner. “He’s driving a Ferrari at Monza – he’s going to defend for his life.”
Kravitz subsequently took exception as he told Ted’s Notebook: “I thought that comment from Christian Horner when he said Sainz was defending as if his life depended on it… if Horner meant that in a sort of antsy way, well that’s not cool. Because you know what? His life did depend on it. Carlos Sainz’s life did depend on it.
“He had absolutely every right to defend from Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez, and everybody else who passed him or tried to pass him today as if his life depended on it because that’s what they’re paid for.”
Wolff knocked down a peg
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has been labelled ‘ungracious’ by former F1 world champion Damon Hill.
Wolff made sour remarks about Max Verstappen’s 10-race win streak, which he sealed with another victory in Monza.
“It sounded a bit churlish and not very gracious,” said Hill. “It’s unlike Toto because he’s usually very sporting. But he is hurting a bit now.
“Mercedes know what it is like to be dominant and they didn’t even get on the podium in Monza. They seem to be a bit stymied and can’t work out what to do.”
