Antony labelled an ’embarrassment’ as Man Utd flops lose their heads vs Man City

Manchester United winger Antony has been labelled 'embarrassing' by football fans on social media for his derby day antics.

Erik ten Hag's side lost 3-0 to the defending Premier League champions at Old Trafford in a game they were thoroughly outclassed in. A brace from Erling Haaland, coupled with a late Phil Foden goal saw City comfortably home, to leave their rivals seething.

Late on in the game, with United already 3-0 down, Ten Hag opted to bring on Brazilian winger Antony for Christian Eriksen. However, just minutes after coming onto the field at Old Trafford, Antony was given a yellow card for kicking out at City winger Jeremy Doku.

The Belgian managed to skip past Antony's first challenge, but was caught the second time around when the Brazilian furiously kicked out at Doku. And that then led to Doku wagging his finger in Antony's face, something which was not well received.

The 23-year-old, who was seen shaking his head on the United bench prior to coming on has had a miserable second season in the Premier League so far, having failed to score or assist seven domestic appearances so far. And fans on social media were left calling out Antony's 'embarrassing' antics with Bruno Fernandes also committing a number of fouls as the game reached its final moments.

One fan commented: "Might be the worst signing in Manchester United history." A second said: "If that’s not the definition of a red card I’m at a loss. No intent to win the ball, purely to injure a fellow player. Has to be a red."

A third wrote: "Antony is the most unlikeable player in PL history and without doubt the worst ever signing. Absolute scumbag." A fourth said: "At this point, play Sancho and forgive and forget. Antony is so unlikeable and even more ineffective in games than he used to be."

Sky Sports commentator and former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville also chimed in, agreeing with Doku's angry reaction. "Doku's absolutely right, Antony just has a kick at him," said Neville on co-comms.

"Absolutely right, Doku. United have lost their discipline. That's absolutely ridiculous, I'd just send him off. It's absolutely ridiculous from Antony, it's embarrassing."
