Chelsea ‘shortlist four strikers’ to give Mauricio Pochettino more firepower

Chelsea are back on track after Fulham win | Football Digest

Chelsea’s recruitment team have reportedly earmarked four talented attackers to go after in future transfer windows. Mauricio Pochettino has dealt with injury issues and wastefulness in the early days of his reign at Stamford Bridge, with a consistent solution yet to be found up top.

Armando Broja put forward a case of his own on Monday night, capitalising on his first Chelsea start for almost a year by scoring the second goal in a 2-0 win over Fulham. Mykhaylo Mudryk was an equally surprising goalscorer, notching his first in the Premier League just one minute prior.

But before kick-off at Craven Cottage, Chelsea had registered only five goals in six league games to start the season. A misfiring start by summer signing Nicolas Jackson and an injury-stricken Christopher Nkunku are also sources of concern.

As a result, CaughtOffside report that the Blues have added four strikers to their transfer shortlist, with a view to getting a major deal done next summer.

Victor Osimhen is believed to be the top choice, and he may attempt to force his way out of Serie A after a turbulent few weeks at Napoli. The Nigerian’s agent threatened to sue the Azzurri over an offensive TikTok video posted by the club, with the social media executive subsequently resigning.

Osimhen has made no secret of his desire to play in the Premier League, and he was heavily linked with Manchester United during the summer, before they plumped for Rasmus Hojlund instead.

Also reported to be on Chelsea’s hit list is Ivan Toney. The Brentford striker finished behind only Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in last season’s Premier League scoring charts, and he recently changed agents, seemingly with a view to testing his talents at a higher level.

Brighton wonderkid Evan Ferguson is also believed to be a player of interest at Stamford Bridge. The 18-year-old has bagged four goals in just over 300 minutes of top-flight action so far this campaign, and many expect him to kick on and enjoy a glittering career.

The fourth and final name under consideration is thought to be Santiago Gimenez. Born in Argentina, the 22-year-old represents Mexico at international level, and he has scored freely since arriving in Europe last year.

Gimenez has already racked up 10 times in the Eredivisie this season, averaging well over a goal per game – a staggering statistic helped by his superb hat-trick in the grudge match against Ajax last week.
