Chelsea ‘step up contract talks’ with Tottenham target Conor Gallagher
Pochettino reviews Chelsea's win over Tottenham
Many Premier League clubs including Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle United were keen on acquiring his services but Pochettino advised against letting him go. The Argentine has gone on to start Gallagher in the centre of the park for all 11 of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season.
And according to 90min, he is backing the club’s plans to extend Gallagher’s deal beyond 2025. Club executives are hoping to tie the academy graduate down to a fresh long-term deal before the winter transfer window opens on January 1.
Gallagher is said to be loving life under Pochettino and recently thanked his manager for sticking by him over the summer while he faced an uncertain future with his boyhood club.
“Before I met Pochettino, I wasn’t sure [on my future] because there was so much happening, so many players leaving and coming in,” he said. “I was buzzing to play under him and stay at Chelsea and prove myself to the club and fans more this season.”
Pochettino recently hinted at Gallagher’s chances of extending his stay. “First of all, you have to see how they feel, in this case the player and the club, the intentions of either side,'” he told club media. ”It’s about feeling good together.

“He’s a player who is doing fantastically. He’s an amazing player and we are so happy with how he is doing things.’” Gallagher has 18 months remaining on his deal at Stamford Bridge but he looks as though he has a long career ahead of him with the Blues.
During usual skipper Reece James’ absence, Gallagher wore the captain’s armband which shows the type of trust Pochettino has in him. Their relationship has only strengthened during their time together and the pair are hoping to continue working together.
