Messi over Ronaldo? David de Gea ‘turns down £500,000-a-week offer to reunite with ex-Man United team-mate in Saudi Arabia’ as move to join Argentine star at Inter Miami ‘holds some appeal’

David De Gea has reportedly turned down the opportunity to join former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

De Gea has been without a club since departing United in the summer, with Erik ten Hag signing Cameroon international Andre Onana to replace the Spaniard between the sticks.

Despite rampant speculation linking De Gea to teams in every corner of world football, last season’s Premier League Golden Glove winner remains without a club.

However, according to a report from The Sun, the goalkeeper recently turned down an opportunity to earn a bumper pay packet at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr.

Though a reported contract in region of £500,000-a-week would prove even more lucrative than his deal at Old Trafford, De Gea is said to have snubbed the chance to join the club with his wife not interested in moving to the middle east.

Saudi Arabia international Nawaf Al-Aqidi has started 11 of Al-Nassr’s league games this season, but has managed just three clean sheets in that time as the club sit second in the table.

A move to the MLS is also said to be on the table for De Gea, with David Beckham’s Inter Miami said to be interested in bringing the former Spain international to the DRV PNK Stadium.

Should De Gea favour a move to America’s Sunshine State, he would join a Spanish-speaking contingent that includes Lionel Messi and former international teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Meanwhile a move closer to home could also be in the offing…

In recent days the 32-year-old has been linked with a shock return to play his club football in Spain for the first time since departing Atletico Madrid in 2011.

Reports from the country claim De Gea met with representatives from second division side Eldense earlier this month with the potential for him to take an ownership stake in the club as part of a potential deal.

Valencia and Real Betis are also said to be keen on signing the Premier League winner though his wage demands decrease the likelihood of a deal being struck.
