The 25-year-old shot-stopper had a medical a week ago in anticipation of a move to Old Trafford, with the deal hinging on Dean Henderson leaving the club.
Crystal Palace have had a £15m bid – plus a further £5m in add-ons – accepted by United for the goalkeeper, though the deal has yet to be made official.
Once it goes through, Bayindir is on standby to fly to Manchester to complete his move, with most of the paperwork already completed.
The Turkey international was removed from Fenerbahce’s starting XI when they beat Twente 5-1 in the Europa Conference League on Thursday and he even appeared to wave goodbye to supporters afterwards.
Now Fred has added more fuel to the speculation that an announcement is imminent, wishing the goalkeeper good luck at Old Trafford and suggesting the transfer is a formality.
Asked about Bayindir’s potential exit at an unveiling press conference on Monday, Fred effectively confirmed the move, saying: ‘I wished Altay good luck when he left. He’s going to a great team.
‘I gave him some suggestions about places where he could live and I told him it rains a lot!
‘I think Altay is going to be very happy at Manchester United.’
Fenerbahce have already signed a replacement in the form of Dominik Livakovic and Fred is a big fan of the Croatia international.
‘Livakovic is a very good goalkeeper,’ he added. ‘He came to help our team. We are all trying to provide for the team, we are all in the same boat.’
United are likely to be very busy in the coming days as Erik ten Hag attempts to fine-tune his squad, with around three new additions expected to come in the door.
In addition to Bayindir, who will act as backup to fellow summer signing and undisputed number one Andre Onana, Ten Hag also wants to bring in a left-back and potentially a midfielder.
The Red Devils are in contact with several clubs over an emergency deal for a defender – with Marc Cucurella, Sergio Reguilon and Marcos Alonso all being looked at – while midfielders Sofyan Amrabat and Ryan Gravenberch have both been linked with moves to Old Trafford throughout the summer.
