Manchester United have revealed that Erik ten Hag will not be attending Sir Bobby Charlton's funeral.

The guest list for the ceremony, which takes place later today, was released this morning, with Ten Hag a notable departure considering a number of United's first team stars are attending. According to the club, the Dutch manager has an "unbreakable and longstanding personal commitment in the Netherlands", which is preventing him from making an appearance.

Former Red Devils bosses Sir Alex Ferguson and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be in attendance, as will England manager Gareth Southgate. Four current United players, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton, are also on the guest list, as are a host of legendary former players including Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Roy Keane.

Charlton, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest English players of all time, passed away at the age of 86 last month following a recent battle with dementia. His funeral service is taking place at Manchester Cathedral, with the service beginning at 2pm on Monday.

Ten Hag's absence comes amid a topsy-turvy run of form for the Red Devils. 1-0 wins over Luton and Fulham have been sandwiched between gut-punching defeats to Manchester City, Newcastle and Copenhagen, leaving the former Ajax boss clinging to his job.

He won't be the only senior United figure not in attendance, however. Club owners the Glazer family reportedly opted out of the ceremony as they feared receiving abuse from fans, which could overshadow the funeral. However, the likes of CEO Richard Arnold, director David Gill and honorary president Martin Edwards will be in attendance.

The funeral procession is expected to pass the statue of Charlton, George Best and Dennis Law, situated outside Old Trafford, where Sir Bobby spent 17 years of his playing career, scoring 249 goals in 758 games.
