Erik ten Hag has ordered Manchester United to keep their cool in the red-hot atmosphere of Istanbul on Wednesday.

United face a must-win clash at Galatasaray in the Champions League group stages. Ten Hag's men have to take all three points to keep alive their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.

United sit rock-bottom of Group A following three defeats in four games. To make matters worse, United will face one of the most hostile atmospheres in football in the cauldron of the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi.

Ten Hag has told his stars to keep their heads and not become victims of an expected dirty-tricks campaign from their Turkish rivals. Ten Hag said: "You have to stay calm in your head and don't get too emotional.

"Don't give them anything, don't give the referee a moment they [Galatasaray] can take. You have to control it. We have to make it your game. It's important how we play. We will come up with a good plan, and then the players have to manage the game.

"Rise to the occasion and produce a performance – and let's see what it will do for the team."

The Red Devils have failed to come up with so much as a point outside Old Trafford in Europe so far this term. They fell 4-3 at Bayern Munich in September before Marcus Rashford's dismissal led to a repeat result after leading by two goals in Copenhagen earlier this month.

United captain Bruno Fernandes admits going out of the Champions League is not an option – and backed United to rise to the challenge. He said: "For us it is really important to be in the competition, with the best clubs in Europe.

"It would be disappointing if we didn't go through. Our focus is on winning this game, where the atmosphere will be intense. We have to enjoy the challenge."
