Everton fans ‘never learn’ as celebrating Fulham cup draw mocked after defeat
Everton supporters have been left red-faced after footage of them celebrating drawing Fulham in the Carabao Cup has resurfaced following their exit on penalties.
The Toffees found themselves a goal behind after Michael Keane put the ball in his own net just before half-time, but battled back to grab a late equaliser through Beto with eight minutes of normal time remaining. That forced the game to a shootout with Fulham edging a nervy affair 7-6 thanks to Tosin Adarabioyo's winning spot-kick.
Both Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye had missed their penalties for Everton, though it was the latter's which proved crucial after Bobby De Cordova-Reid had also missed for Fulham as the shootout went to sudden death. The result sees Everton crash out and the Cottagers progress to the semi-finals, with fans of the Merseyside club left licking their wounds and nursing their bruised egos.

A video of Everton fans celebrating jubilantly when they were pitted against Fulham has been shared numerous times on social media as rival football fans couldn't resist mocking the embarrassed Toffees. "Cheering when they got Fulham in the draw. Aged well," one fan wrote, as another asked: "Wembley In February then?"
Others weighed in: "The scenes when they got Fulham in the draw, get the camera in there now," one remarked, as another couldn't hide their bemusement: "Hahahaha they never learn do they."
Fulham were joined in the next round by rivals Chelsea, who came through a nail-biting shootout of their own to knock out Newcastle after late drama at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea came back from a goal down as Kieran Trippier's error in stoppage time allowed Mykhaylo Mudryk the chance to cancel out Callum Wilson's 15th-minute opener.

Trippier then missed his penalty in the shootout, as did team-mate Matt Ritchie, as Chelsea sealed a 4-2 win on spot-kicks to progress. Championship side Middlesbrough – led by former Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick – are also through to the last four after seeing off League One Port Vale 3-0 at Vale Park.
Liverpool and West Ham contest the other quarter-final at Anfield on Wednesday, with the final of the competition set for Sunday February 25.
