Ian Wright goes WILD as he celebrates Declan Rice’s injury-time winner for Arsenal at Luton… and laughs as he reads what James Maddison said about his England team-mate

  • Declan Rice scored in the 97th minute to give Arsenal a 4-3 win against Luton
  • Ian Wright celebrated the goal wildly, and poked fun at James Maddison

Ian Wright was seen going wild in a video after Arsenal came back to secure a late winner to beat Luton 4-3 on Tuesday, with summer signing Declan Rice scoring a header in the seventh minute of injury time.

Wright also poked fun at James Maddison in the video, after reading a news story from The Mirror, in which Maddison had reportedly said his England team-mate Rice was a ‘top player’ but added he ‘hated’ him for moving to Arsenal.

Since moving to the Gunners in the summer for a landmark £105million, Rice has impressed for the north London outfit, scoring three goals for the club in the Premier League so far.

After Kai Havertz had helped Mikel Arteta’s side level the playing field at 3-3, with Kai Havertz scoring in the 60th minute, Arsenal pressed to secure a winner against Luton, with Rice rising high to meet a cross from Martin Odegaard and heading home the winner in the seventh minute of injury time.

It sparked scenes of jubilation from the travelling Arsenal fans at Kenilworth Road, with Ian Wright, watching on in the studio before going bezerk.

The former Arsenal star was seen in a video posted by Optus Sport leaping out of his chair shouting in jubilation after the goal went in.

‘Yes!’ he screamed before pulling his phone from his pocket.

‘Look I’ve just seen this. Look what I was just looking at!’

Wright pointed to the article on his phone before saying: ‘James Maddison: ‘I hate that he plays for Arsenal.’ And then Declan Rice Scores!’

He continued to celebrate the late goal, waving his arms and head in delirium while shouting: ‘Arsenal! Arsenal!’

Rice has now gone on to feature for Arsenal 22 times since his arrival at the Emirates and has received the praise of many in the football world, with Gunners fans dubbing him as ‘ridiculous’.

It came just as Wright was reading a news story about James Maddison, in which he had claimed he ‘hated’ Rice for moving to Arsenal

The England midfielder has been pivotal for the Gunners this season, scoring three times in 22 Premier League appearances

Maddison, meanwhile, also moved clubs earlier this season, joining Tottenham after his former club, Leicester, were relegated to the Championship.

But the midfielder recently appeared in an interview on Amazon Prime speaking on Rice, and lauded his England team-mate for his technical ability.

Maddison said: ‘Yeah, [he’s got everything]. He’s technically really, really good.

‘We do passing for England in training. He is a joke when it comes to low-cut passes, zingers. I think he’s a top, top player. I hate that he plays for Arsenal.’

Maddison is out of action until at least the new year after he sustained an ankle injury against Chelsea.
