James Maddison has revealed that he had never heard of one of his Tottenham team-mates ahead of signing for the club, and even had to search his name into YouTube ‘to see if he was any good’.
The midfielder joined Spurs from relegated Leicester City in the summer transfer window and has had a fine start to life in the capital.

Since the Australian’s arrival, he brought in 9 players during the summer transfer window to rebuild his squad after seeing Harry Kane depart.
And Maddison has now revealed that he didn’t know who one of his fellow summer signings was and even had to watch his highlights on YouTube,

Chatting to former Premier League goalkeeper Ben FosterĀ on Amazon Prime Video, Maddison discussed the signing of goalkeeperĀ Guglielmo Vicario, who joined from Empoli.
‘We signed him. I hadn’t obviously signed yet,’ Maddison remembered. ‘I was like ‘who is he?’ kind of thing. I’d never heard of him.’
The midfielder continued to reveal that he took to watching YouTube highlights of his soon-to-be team-mate before he moved to Spurs.
‘I’m in the back of the car on his YouTube Vicario highlights to see if he was any good.’
Maddison joked that he was impressed with the Italian’s skill from the YouTube compilation that he watched, saying:Ā ‘They were alright to be fair. Brilliant shot stopper!’
The England international finalised by discussing how Vicario has helped him improve his game this season, and how the pair are learning from each other.Ā
‘That’s the one thing… I think he’s hard to score past.
‘Sometimes we’ll practice penalties and shooting in training, I want him in goal because he’s the hardest to score past,’ he concludedĀ
